Mystic Blue defined the mid-2000s 3 Series facelift and gave the E46 M3 a refined, stealthy profile that brighter blues lacked. In the shade, it looks like a clean midnight navy. Once you move into the sun, a subtle purple undertone wakes up. It replaced the lighter Topaz Blue to offer a more mature look for the 5 Series and the final years of the E46 generation. It hides dirt well, but it demands a high-gloss finish to truly pop.

Technical Details

This is a metallic finish. It relies on a heavy load of fine silver flakes to create that signature depth. Metallics are tricky. If you apply the paint too heavily in one spot, the flakes will sink and create dark patches. If you apply it too lightly, the color will look thin and grey. The goal is a consistent, even flow to ensure the flakes lay flat. Because it has a violet lean, the color can shift significantly depending on the light source.

Best Practices

Pop the hood and look at the driver-side shock tower or check the driver's door jamb to find your color ID. Before you spray or dab BMW Mystic Blue (check for code A07), you need to shake it for 60 seconds. Those metallic flakes settle at the bottom of the container; if you don't mix them, your repair won't match. Test the color on the included card first. Keep the container moving at all times to prevent pooling. Work in a garage or the shade-never in direct sunlight-and allow plenty of drying time between light layers.

Reason I chose this product: Spouse sideswiped passenger side of car while backing out of garage. Mostly plastic transfer from his wheel well trim but pressure creased and cracked the paint causing a bare strip 1/8 wide x 4” long below door handle. Scratches on door handle and a few small chips on both doors.

Simply the best custom mixed paint in spray cans

Used Paint Scratch metallic custom mixed spray cans paint on a hood panel with excellent coverage and texture over the surface. Metallic paint can be very unforgiving out of a spray can, sputtering pigmentation dots on the panel being sprayed and thus ruining the paint job. No such issues with Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint spray cans. Paint sprayed strong and evenly till the last drop of paint in the can. Shipping time was faster than expected. Reason I chose this business: Having tried other brands of custom mixed metallic paint with terrible results, sputtering pigmentation tint dots from the spray nozzle in spite of vigorously shaking of can prior to application and loss of propellant rendering the lower fifth of the can's paint useless, Paint Scratch custom mixed metallic paint sprays out beautifully and strong all the way to the last gram of paint in the can.
