The Look

This is the definitive red of the mid-90s Chrysler era. If you are fixing a spot on your Durango or Stratus, you are working with a color that defined Dodge's aggressive, cab-forward styling for two decades. It is a loud, unapologetic bright red that looks incredible when it is fresh, but because your car has likely been on the road for a significant amount of time, you should expect some natural color shifting. Red pigments are the most sensitive to UV rays, so your existing paint has probably drifted slightly from the day it left the factory.

Technical Details

You are working with a solid finish, which is a massive advantage for a DIY project. Unlike metallics or pearls that require perfect flake orientation to avoid looking striped, this is a pure, high-pigment red. You do not have to worry about the angle of the spray or the way the light hits different flakes. The trade-off is that solid reds are very "honest"-they show every ripple and sand scratch in the surface underneath. Since there is no sparkle to hide your work, your surface preparation in the garage or shade needs to be as smooth as possible.

Best Practices

You can find your factory sticker on the driver's side door jamb, though on some older Avenger and Stratus models, you might need to look at the firewall near the back of the engine. Before you spray or dab Dodge Radiant Fire (check for code R87/PRB), you need to shake it for 60 seconds. This ensures the heavy red pigments are fully suspended. Always test the color on the included card first to see how well it matches your car's current level of fade. When you start applying, keep the container moving at all times to avoid puddles. Red covers well, but it is best applied in several thin layers rather than one heavy coat. Give it plenty of drying time between layers to ensure the finish stays flat and durable.
