The Look

This is the deepest finish in the lineup. Whether you drive a Model 3 or a Model X, this color gives the car a heavy, grounded presence. It turns the body panels into a mirror. The downside is that it acts as a magnet for dust and fine scratches. If you look at it the wrong way, a swirl mark might appear. But when the surface is clean and the light hits it right, nothing else looks quite as expensive.

Technical Details

This is a true solid finish. Unlike the multi-coat whites or the metallic blues found on the Model S and Model Y, there are no tiny flakes of metal or pearl hiding in the liquid. This is pure pigment. The benefit is that you will not deal with color shifts or "flop" when looking at the repair from different angles. The risk is that solid black shows every minor hump or dip in your work. You have to be patient because the deep pigment needs proper drying time between layers to prevent the finish from looking dull or hazy.

Best Practices

You can find your paint info on the driver side door jamb sticker, right on the vehicle information label. Before you spray or dab Tesla Solid Black (check for code 02), you need to shake it for 60 seconds to ensure the heavy black pigments are fully mixed. Always test the color on the included card to verify the shade matches your current finish before touching the car. When you start, keep the container moving to ensure the paint lands in even, thin layers rather than pooling in one spot. If you are working in a Garage or a patch of Shade, make sure you have plenty of light to see the edges of your work.
