How to Find Your 2011 Aston-Martin's Color Code

Typical location for an Aston-Martin paint color code: the driver's door jamb. If the code cannot be found, Aston-Martin can be contacted to see if they can determine the color code. When no color code exists, the alternative identifier is the PPG or Dupont (Axalta) paint formula number.

2011 Aston-Martin Background Info

The 2011 Aston-Martin Vibe

By 2011, Aston-Martin was hitting a peak of "shaken, not stirred" cool. Whether it was the sharp-edged V12 Vantage, the grand-touring DB9, or the DBS looking like it just finished a high-speed chase through Montenegro, these cars were the business. We've got 27 colors in our vault for this year, and frankly, they're a mood. You had the Bond-approved Casino Royale Pearl and Quantum Silver Pearl for the understated gentleman, but then the factory would turn around and spray a Sunburst Yellow Pearl Tricoat or Magma Red Pearl for the owner who wanted to be seen from low-earth orbit. It was a time of deep pearls and complex metallics that made the cars look like they were still wet.

Paint Health Check

The Legend says these cars are hand-finished, but don't let the marketing fool you-2011 was firmly in the Thin Paint Era. The robots at the factory were masterfully efficient, but efficiency usually means they didn't waste a drop. The clear coat on these models is notoriously lean, designed more for aerodynamics and weight savings than for surviving a gravel road. If you look closely at the door handles, mirror arms, or the underside of the bonnet, you might spot the "pizza effect"-small micro-blisters where the paint is starting to lift from the aluminum. Between those factory bubbles and the "peppered" look of stone chips on that low-slung nose, your clear coat is likely fighting for its life by now.

Restoration Tip

When you're touching up a 2011 finish, remember the Golden Rule of the Thin Paint Era: Build layers slowly; don't blob it. Because the factory clear is so shallow, a giant drop of touch-up paint will sit on the surface like a sore thumb. For those deep pearls like Mariana Blue or Stratus White, apply your base color in two or three paper-thin passes, letting it dry until it's just tacky between each one. When you finally go in with the clear coat, use a fine-tipped brush or a toothpick to level it off. It's better to have a slightly concave repair that you can add to later than a "mountain" of paint that requires heavy sanding-you simply don't have the clear coat thickness to spare for aggressive buffing.
