How to Find Your Audi S6's Color Code

Audi paint color codes are printed on a paper color id tag, often found around the spare tire area; some Audis also have a metal plate on the driver door jamb. The paper tag can fall off and disappear over time, leaving codes unavailable. Codes can include two parts, e.g., LY9H and P1; LY9H often corresponds to Polar White Clearcoat, and P1 can be used for the same white on some models. Older Audi models can be hard to identify by code; custom matching may be required.

The Color Breakdown

Audi clearly didn't want you to feel limited, as they've recorded a staggering 65 colors for the S6. While they certainly have a thing for "50 shades of grey" with classics like Nardo Gray, Daytona Gray Pearl, and Monsoon Gray, they also knew when to let their hair down. If you're lucky enough to be rocking Sepang Blue Metallic or the fiery Tornado Red, you own a piece of Audi's performance personality. Whether it's a stealthy Mythos Black or a shimmering White Pearl Tri-Coat, the S6 was designed to look fast even while sitting in a driveway.

What to Watch For

Before you start dabbling with that touch-up brush, you need to find your "North Star"-the paint code. On an S6, Audi likes to play a little game of hide-and-seek. Open your trunk and lift the carpet; you're looking for a white paper sticker usually tucked into the spare tire well or stuck to the side of the trunk compartment panel. Look for a 4-digit code (something like LY7C or LS3H).

As for the paint itself, Audi clear coats are legendary for being "German engineered," which often means they are quite hard and durable. However, that high-performance front bumper is a magnet for rock chips. You might also notice the paint around the door handles or the edge of the trunk can get a little thin over the years. Don't worry; these are the battle scars of a car that's actually been driven.

Driveway Repair Tip

Since so many S6 colors are metallic or pearl-based (looking at you, Glacier White and Phantom Black), the "secret sauce" is in the shake. Those tiny sparkles settle at the bottom of the bottle like gold in a riverbed. Shake your touch-up bottle for a full 60 seconds-longer than you think you need to-to wake up those metallic flakes. When applying, remember that these deep pearls require patience. Instead of trying to fill a chip in one go, apply a tiny drop, let it dry, and come back for a second pass. It's the difference between a repair that disappears and a blob that stands out.
