How to Find Your BMW M Roadster's Color Code

BMW paint color codes appear in varied spots: on the firewall, on the radiator support, on the door jamb, or in the trunk. Location varies by year; a diagram under Finding Your Color Code shows where. Typical code format example: 300, which corresponds to: Alpine White III Clearcoat. Same Color Code, Different Name: the same paint can have different names across models (e.g., 300 also called White Clearcoat, Premium White Clearcoat). The code is key to correct paint.

The Color Breakdown

BMW didn't hold back when they dressed the M Roadster. They handed us a palette of 23 distinct colors, ranging from the business-casual Titan Silver Metallic and Black Sapphire to the "look at me" shades like Evergreen, Dakar Yellow II, and the legendary Laguna Seca Blue. Whether your car looks like it's headed to a board meeting or a beach party, it's clear the designers really went for it.

What to Watch For

Before you pop that cap, you need to find your specific code. On the M Roadster, BMW usually hides this information in the engine compartment. Look for a black sticker on the driver's side strut tower (the metal "hump" near the wheel). If it's not there, check the underside of the hood or the passenger side wheel housing.

The biggest challenge you'll face isn't the color-it's the car's shape. That beautiful, long hood is basically a low-slung landing strip for road pebbles, and those famously wide rear "hips" tend to catch "road rash" from the front tires. You might also notice the clear coat getting a little brittle around the edges of the trunk or door handles, especially if the car has spent its life soaking up the sun.

Driveway Repair Tip

Since so many M Roadster colors-like Estoril Blue or Sepang Silver-are packed with metallic flakes and pearls, they need a little "wake-up call." Shake your touch-up bottle for a full 60 seconds (set a timer!) to make sure those sparkles are evenly distributed.

For those tiny stone chips on the hood, put down the brush that came in the cap-it's usually too big. Instead, use the tip of a wooden toothpick. Dab a tiny drop of paint into the center of the chip and let it spread out to the edges on its own. If it needs more, wait 20 minutes and add a second thin layer. Remember, three thin coats will always look better than one thick blob that looks like a grape stuck to your car.
