How to Find Your 1967 Buick's Color Code

Buick used many different locations over the years, so the paint color plate can be hard to find. GM did not standardize the location. Commonly cited spots are the glove box or the spare tire well; otherwise it may be anywhere. The code format typically looks like 51/WA316N, usually preceded by BC/CC (BC/CC 51 or BC/CC 316N), and two-tone entries may show U or L (BC/CC U316N or BC/CC L316N).

1967 Buick Background Info

The 1967 Buick Vibe

Welcome to 1967, the year Buick decided your driveway should look like a high-end jewelry box. This was the peak of the "Coke bottle" styling era, where cars like the Riviera and the Electra 225 weren't just transport-they were rolling statements of suburban dominance. With 22 colors in our database for this year, it's clear Buick wasn't shy. Whether you were rocking the deep, regal Riviera Plum, the oceanic Aquamarine Poly, or the punchy Apple Red, these cars were designed to shimmer under the neon lights of a drive-in. Back then, if your paint didn't have "Mist" or "Poly" (metallic) in the name, you were basically driving a tractor.

Paint Health Check

We are firmly in the Single Stage Era, kid. Your '67 Buick was sprayed with thick, luscious acrylic lacquer-paint that has more soul than anything coming off a robotic assembly line today. But here's the agitation: lacquer is a living thing. It doesn't "peel" like the plastic-wrap clear coats of the 90s; instead, it suffers from Oxidation. If your Midnight Blue Poly looks like it's covered in a layer of gray chalkboard dust, that's the paint literally sacrificing itself to the sun. Without a protective barrier, the pigments dry out, the metallic flakes lose their grip, and the finish turns into a matte disaster.

Restoration Tip

When you're touching up a survivor, remember: it needs wax or it dies. If you're dealing with that chalky oxidation, you can often "level" the surface with a fine polishing compound to find the buried treasure underneath. When applying a touch-up for colors like Champagne Mist Poly or Gold Mist Poly, give the bottle a serious workout-those 1960s metallic flakes are heavy and love to settle at the bottom. Once you've filled the chip and leveled it, seal the entire panel with a high-quality carnauba wax. Think of it as life support for your Buick's ego.
