How to Find Your Buick Envision's Color Code

Buick used many different locations over the years, so the paint color plate can be hard to find. GM did not standardize the location. Commonly cited spots are the glove box or the spare tire well; otherwise it may be anywhere. The code format typically looks like 51/WA316N, usually preceded by BC/CC (BC/CC 51 or BC/CC 316N), and two-tone entries may show U or L (BC/CC U316N or BC/CC L316N).

The Color Breakdown

Buick really "went for it" with the Envision, recording a staggering 95 colors over the years. We've seen everything from the pun-heavy Black Meet Kettle Pearl and Son of a Gun Gray to the surprisingly delicious Edible Berries Metallic. Whether you're rocking the deep Cherry Pop Tricoat or the classic White Frost, you're driving a car that GM clearly wanted to stand out in the parking lot.

What to Watch For

First, let's find your "fingerprint." On the Envision, you usually won't find the paint code on the door jamb like most cars. Pop open your glove box and look for a silver or white "Service Parts Identification" sticker. You're looking for a code near the bottom that starts with "BC/CC" followed by a "U" or "WA" (like WA8555).

In terms of wear, the Envision is known for a bit of "orange peel" texture on the rear liftgate around the license plate-it's a factory quirk, so don't be alarmed if your touch-up doesn't look glass-smooth there. Also, keep a close eye on your roof and the "piano black" trim between the windows; these spots tend to catch the most sun and are often the first places where the clear coat starts to feel a bit thin or brittle.

Driveway Repair Tip

Because so many Envision colors are high-end metallics or "Tricoats" (like Abalone White or Cinnabar), those tiny bottles are packed with metallic flakes that love to sink to the bottom. Shake your touch-up bottle for at least two full minutes-long after you think you're done-to wake up those sparkles. When applying, think "less is more." Use the tip of the brush to dab a tiny amount into the center of the chip and let it spread itself out. If the color looks a little light at first, don't panic; those pearls and metallics often need two very thin layers and a few minutes of drying time to show their true depth.
