How to Find Your Buick LaCrosse's Color Code

Buick used many different locations over the years, so the paint color plate can be hard to find. GM did not standardize the location. Commonly cited spots are the glove box or the spare tire well; otherwise it may be anywhere. The code format typically looks like 51/WA316N, usually preceded by BC/CC (BC/CC 51 or BC/CC 316N), and two-tone entries may show U or L (BC/CC U316N or BC/CC L316N).

The Color Breakdown

Buick didn't just paint the LaCrosse; they treated it like a rolling canvas, recording a staggering 135 different colors over the years. They really went for it with the naming conventions, too. You might be driving anything from the classic Galaxy Silver Metallic to the more adventurous Edible Berries Metallic, the punny Old Blue Eyes Metallic, or the slightly ominous Black Meet Kettle Pearl. Whether your car is Green With Envy or just a sophisticated shade of Gasoline, there is a lot of pigment packed into those finish coats.

What to Watch For

Before you start dabbing, you need to find your "Service Parts Identification" sticker. On most LaCrosse models, you'll find this silver or white label hidden inside the glove box, though some years like to hide it in the spare tire well under the trunk carpet. Look for a code starting with "WA" or "U" followed by four digits.

Keep a close eye on your horizontal surfaces-the hood, roof, and the top of the trunk. The LaCrosse is known to have clear coats that can get a little "moody" after years in the sun, sometimes peeling or flaking like a bad sunburn. If you see a small chip, fix it now! Catching it early with a touch-up pen prevents that tiny nick from turning into a giant peeling map of the moon.

Driveway Repair Tip

Since so many LaCrosse colors are pearls or metallics (looking at you, White Diamond and Abalone White), the "glitter" in the paint likes to settle at the bottom of the bottle. Shake your touch-up pen or bottle for a full 60 seconds-longer than you think you need to-to wake up those sparkles.

When applying, resist the urge to fill a deep chip with one big "blob" of paint. These high-end Buick colors require patience; apply two or three thin, whisper-light layers instead of one thick one. This prevents the metallic flakes from bunching up and looking darker than the rest of the car.
