How to Find Your Cadillac CTS's Color Code

Cadillac used many locations for paint codes, making them hard to find, often impossible. GM (parent company of Cadillac) did not standardize the plate location. Usually the code is in the glove box or the spare tire well; otherwise it may be elsewhere. The typical format is 51/WA316N, usually preceded by BC/CC (e.g., BC/CC 51 or BC/CC 316N). There are two codes in one, and a U or L may precede for Upper or Lower. Two-tone examples: BC/CC U316N or BC/CC L316N.

The Color Breakdown

Cadillac didn't just pick a palette for the CTS; they wrote an epic. With 171 colors recorded over the years, they really went for it. You've got everything from the classic Galaxy Silver Metallic to the arguably legendary Mary Kay Pink Pearl. They even got a little cheeky with the naming rights-I'm looking at you, "You Drive Me Grazy Pearl" and "Black Meet Kettle Pearl." Whether your CTS is Old Blue Eyes Metallic or a stealthy Carbon Flash, there is a lot of personality packed into these finishes.

What to Watch For

Now, for the reality check: Cadillac paint can be a bit sensitive. The most common "ouch" spots are the front bumper and the hood, which tend to pick up road chips like a magnet. You might also notice the paint on the plastic bits-like the door handles or the edges of the bumpers-starting to act a little shy and peel away from the clear coat.

To fix these, you first need your "Source of Truth" (the paint code). On a CTS, Cadillac likes to play hide-and-seek. Check the trunk first-specifically on the underside of the spare tire cover or tucked into the spare tire wheel well. Look for a silver or white sticker with "BC/CC" followed by a code that usually starts with "WA" (like WA8555).

Driveway Repair Tip

Since so many CTS colors are "Tricoats" or heavy metallics (like White Diamond or Crystal Claret), they require a little more "soul" during the application. Before you touch that chip, shake your touch-up bottle for a full 60 seconds-longer than you think you need-to get those metallic flakes dancing and evenly distributed.

When you apply the paint, think "less is more." Use the tip of the applicator to drop a tiny dot into the center of the chip and let it spread out to the edges on its own. If it's a deep chip, do two thin layers rather than one big glob. It requires a little patience, but it's the difference between a repair that disappears and one that looks like a high-school art project.
