How to Find Your Cadillac Escalade's Color Code

Cadillac used many locations for paint codes, making them hard to find, often impossible. GM (parent company of Cadillac) did not standardize the plate location. Usually the code is in the glove box or the spare tire well; otherwise it may be elsewhere. The typical format is 51/WA316N, usually preceded by BC/CC (e.g., BC/CC 51 or BC/CC 316N). There are two codes in one, and a U or L may precede for Upper or Lower. Two-tone examples: BC/CC U316N or BC/CC L316N.

The Color Breakdown

The Cadillac Escalade doesn't just arrive; it makes an entrance. To keep that "Main Character Energy" going, Cadillac has rolled out a staggering 187 colors over the years. They really went for it with the naming conventions, too. You've got everything from the classic Black Raven to the conversation-starting Green With Envy Pearl and the legendary Mary Kay Pink Tricoat. Whether your truck is finished in Son Of A Gun Gray Metallic or Black Meet Kettle Pearl, it's clear Cadillac believes there's no such thing as "too much" when it comes to variety.

What to Watch For

While these trucks are built to look like a million bucks, the paint can sometimes have a bit of a "luxury ego." If you own a model from the 2015-2020 era, keep a close eye on the hood and roof; the clear coat on these big panels has been known to get a little "cloudy" or even start peeling if they spend too much time in the sun. You might also notice some tiny bubbling on the edges of the hood or the rear liftgate-that's just the aluminum reacting to the elements.

To find your specific color match, skip the door jamb first and head straight for the glove box. Look for a silver or white "Service Parts Identification" sticker. You're looking for a code near the bottom that starts with "WA" or "U" (like WA8555 for the classic black).

Driveway Repair Tip

Because so many Escalade colors are pearls or "Tricoats" (shoutout to White Diamond owners), they require a little extra patience. Before you touch that chip, shake your touch-up pen or bottle for a full 60 seconds-longer than you think you need to. You need to wake up all those metallic flakes and pearls so they don't just sit at the bottom of the bottle. When you apply the paint, think "less is more." Use the tip of the brush to dab a tiny amount into the center of the chip and let it spread itself out. If you're working on one of those beautiful pearl finishes, doing two thin layers is always better than one big, gloopy drop.
