How to Find Your Chevrolet Blazer's Color Code

Chevrolet did not make it easy to find the color code. Over the years they used many different locations and did not standardize the color plate, so it can be hard to locate. Usually it is in the glove box or the spare tire well; otherwise, the search may extend everywhere. The typical code is 51/WA316N, usually preceded by BC/CC. Two tone codes can appear as BC/CC U316N or BC/CC L316N (U for Upper, L for Lower).

The Color Breakdown

Chevrolet has recorded a massive 196 colors for the Blazer over the years, and it's clear the design team had some fun in the lab. We've moved from the dependable classics like Pewter Metallic and Indigo Metallic to colors with names that sound more like indie rock bands. If you're driving around in Black Meet Kettle Pearl, Blue Me Away, or the high-energy Pow Zinga Metallic, you know Chevy really went for it. Whether your Blazer is dressed in a sophisticated Bae-ge Metallic or the explosive Cherry Bomb Red Tricoat, there is a lot of personality packed into those 196 formulas.

What to Watch For

Before you start your repair, you need to find your "Service Parts Identification" sticker. On the Blazer, this is almost always tucked away inside the glove box. Look for a code starting with "WA" or "BC/CC." While you're looking around, keep an eye on the lower door sills and the edges of the wheel openings-Blazer owners often report the paint can be a little shy in these spots, sometimes flaking away to reveal the white primer underneath. If you have an RS trim with the blacked-out look, check the "black chrome" accents on the grill; those areas are prone to small stone chips that like to grow if they aren't caught early.

Driveway Repair Tip

Since so many Blazer colors are heavy on the metallics and pearls (we're looking at you, Indigo Metallic), your biggest secret weapon is the "The Great Shake." Shake your touch-up bottle for at least 60 seconds-longer than you think you need to-to wake up those tiny metallic flakes that have settled at the bottom. When you apply the paint, think of it like building a sandwich: thin, light layers are your best friend. If you're working with a Tricoat like Iridescent Pearl, it requires patience to get the depth right, so don't try to fill the whole chip in one go. Let each layer dry until it's no longer tacky before adding the next.
