How to Find Your Chevrolet Silverado's Color Code

Chevrolet did not make it easy to find the color code. Over the years they used many different locations and did not standardize the color plate, so it can be hard to locate. Usually it is in the glove box or the spare tire well; otherwise, the search may extend everywhere. The typical code is 51/WA316N, usually preceded by BC/CC. Two tone codes can appear as BC/CC U316N or BC/CC L316N (U for Upper, L for Lower).

The Color Breakdown

Chevrolet has recorded a massive 249 colors for the Silverado, and it's clear the naming department was having the time of their lives. We've seen everything from the classic Silver Metallic to the surprisingly honest Pull Me Over Red. They really went for it with names like Black Meet Kettle Pearl, Some Kind of Blue Metallic, and the ruggedly named Barb Wire Metallic. Whether your truck is Unripened Green Metallic or Tangier Orange, there is a color for every personality-and every job site.

What to Watch For

While these trucks are built to "Find New Roads," the paint sometimes prefers to find a way off the truck. Silverados are legendary for their "rock rash" on the leading edge of the hood and the front bumper, as the modern clear coats can be quite thin. If you're driving a white model like Olympic White or Summit White, keep an eye on your door handles and roof; these areas are known for paint flaking or "peeling" if a chip is left untreated for too long.

To find your match, look in two places: on older models, check the glove box for a silver "Service Parts Identification" sticker (you're looking for a code starting with "WA" or "U"). On newer trucks (2019+), head to the driver's side door jamb and look for a QR code; your paint code is usually hiding right beneath it.

Driveway Repair Tip

Since so many Silverado colors are heavy on the sparkle-like Abalone White Tricoat or Garnet Red Metallic-you have to wake up those metallics. Shake your touch-up bottle for at least 60 seconds (or until you hear that mixing ball rattling like a spray can). Instead of using the big brush that comes in the cap, which often leaves a "blob," try using a wooden toothpick to dab the paint into the chip. Apply it in thin layers and wait 20 minutes between dabs. This builds the color up slowly so it sits flush with the rest of your truck's finish.
