How to Find Your Chevrolet Special Colors's Color Code

Chevrolet did not make it easy to find the color code. Over the years they used many different locations and did not standardize the color plate, so it can be hard to locate. Usually it is in the glove box or the spare tire well; otherwise, the search may extend everywhere. The typical code is 51/WA316N, usually preceded by BC/CC. Two tone codes can appear as BC/CC U316N or BC/CC L316N (U for Upper, L for Lower).

The Color Breakdown

Chevrolet didn't just stick to the basics; they clearly had some fun with the palette. With 21 special colors recorded, they gave us everything from the sophisticated Dark Cherry Metallic and Auburn Metallic to the legendary, head-turning Mary Kay Pink. Whether your ride is sporting the earthy Dark Otter Pri Metallic or the shimmering White Diamond Pearl Tricoat, it's clear that these weren't your average "off-the-lot" choices-they really went for it at the factory.

What to Watch For

While these colors look like a million bucks, some of them-especially the whites and lighter metallics-have a reputation for getting a bit "tired" over time. Keep an eye on the roof and hood; the clear coat can sometimes act like a bad sunburn, flaking off in small sheets if it's spent too much time in the sun. To find your specific color code, don't just check the door jamb. Chevrolet likes to hide the Service Parts Identification (SPID) label in a few different "secret" spots: check the inside of your glove box, the underside of the trunk lid, or even stuck to the spare tire cover. Look for a code starting with "WA" or "U" at the bottom of the sticker.

Driveway Repair Tip

Because many of these special colors (like the Mary Kay Pink Pri Tricoat or White Diamond) are multi-stage paints, they require a bit more heart than a standard flat white. Those beautiful sparkles and pearls love to settle at the bottom of the bottle, so shake your touch-up pen or brush for a full 60 seconds-maybe 90 if it's been sitting-to wake up the metallic flakes. When you apply it, remember that "less is more." Use thin, light dabs rather than one big glob. If you're working with a pearl or tricoat, it may look a little thin at first, but that's okay! Building it up in two or three light layers requires patience, but it's the best way to get that deep factory glow back in your driveway.
