How to Find Your Chevrolet Tracker's Color Code

Chevrolet did not make it easy to find the color code. Over the years they used many different locations and did not standardize the color plate, so it can be hard to locate. Usually it is in the glove box or the spare tire well; otherwise, the search may extend everywhere. The typical code is 51/WA316N, usually preceded by BC/CC. Two tone codes can appear as BC/CC U316N or BC/CC L316N (U for Upper, L for Lower).

The Color Breakdown

The Chevrolet Tracker may be a compact SUV, but its color palette was anything but small. With 35 recorded colors, Chevy really leaned into the turn-of-the-century aesthetic. We're talking about a lineup that ranges from the sunny California Gold Metallic to the moody Purple Graphite Metallic and the adventurous Scuba Blue Metallic. Whether you're driving a Wildfire Red head-turner or a more subdued Silver Sage, these colors were designed to make this little 4x4 stand out in a grocery store parking lot.

What to Watch For

Before you start dabbing on paint, you need to find your code. On the Tracker, Chevy liked to play hide-and-seek; check the inside of your glove box first for a "Service Parts Identification" sticker. If it's not there, check the driver's side door jamb. You're looking for a code that starts with "WA" or is listed near "BC/CC." In terms of wear, these cars are famous for "sunburn"-that's when the clear coat starts to flake off on the hood and roof. You might also notice the paint on the plastic bumpers (often Spectre Gray) aging differently than the metal panels. If you see edges starting to lift, don't ignore them; a little touch-up now stops a small flake from becoming a palm-sized problem.

Driveway Repair Tip

Since so many Tracker colors are metallics, your best friend is the 60-second shake. Those tiny metallic flakes like to settle at the bottom of the bottle. Shake it until you think you're done, then shake it for another minute to ensure the color is consistent. When applying, avoid the "one big glob" method. Use the tip of your brush to apply three thin layers rather than one thick one. This prevents the paint from looking like a raised bump and helps those metallic sparkles lay down flat and pretty, just like the factory intended.
