How to Find Your Chevrolet Trax's Color Code

Chevrolet did not make it easy to find the color code. Over the years they used many different locations and did not standardize the color plate, so it can be hard to locate. Usually it is in the glove box or the spare tire well; otherwise, the search may extend everywhere. The typical code is 51/WA316N, usually preceded by BC/CC. Two tone codes can appear as BC/CC U316N or BC/CC L316N (U for Upper, L for Lower).

The Color Breakdown

The Chevrolet Trax may be a compact SUV, but its color palette is anything but small. With 122 recorded colors, Chevrolet really went for it. We're talking about everything from the cheeky Pull Me Over Red and the earthy Cacti to the wonderfully named Black Meet Kettle Pearl. Whether you're driving a Sharkskin gray or a Boracay Blue, your Trax was designed to stand out in a parking lot full of "safe" choices.

What to Watch For

Before you pop the cap on that touch-up bottle, you need to find your "Service Parts Identification" sticker. On older Trax models, check the glove box first-it's usually a silver or white sticker with a bunch of three-digit codes. On the newer 2024+ generations, head to the driver's side door jamb. You might even see a QR code on the VIN tag; scanning that with your phone is the fastest way to pull up your specific paint code (look for a code starting with "WA" or "U").

In terms of maintenance, keep a close eye on the roof line and the edges of the rear window. The Trax can be a little sensitive in these areas, where the clear coat sometimes decides it wants to retire early and starts to flake. You'll also want to watch the front bumper and hood, as the factory finish can be a bit soft, making it a magnet for highway gravel.

Driveway Repair Tip

Since so many Trax colors-like Abalone White Tricoat or Midnight Silver-rely on heavy metallic or pearl flakes, your best friend is a timer. Shake that touch-up bottle for a full 60 seconds. Then, shake it for 30 more. Those tiny sparkles like to settle at the bottom, and you want them suspended in the paint for a uniform look. When applying, think "less is more." Use the tip of your applicator to place a tiny dot in the center of the chip and let it spread itself out. If you try to paint it like a fence with one thick coat, it will look like a dark spot; multiple thin layers require patience, but they are the secret to a repair that disappears into the bodywork.
