How to Find Your 1994 Chrysler's Color Code

Chrysler paint codes can be difficult to find. In the good old days, they were on top of the radiator support, often hidden under engine grease and oil. Later models put them on the drivers door jamb. Typical format: BS/GBS, but only BS is the color code; it can also appear as QBS, PBS, TBS, etc., with the first letter as a confusing "Year Code." BS corresponds to Deep Water Blue Pearl Clearcoat; the G in GBS is not part of the color code.

1994 Chrysler Background Info

The 1994 Chrysler Vibe

Welcome to 1994-the year of flannel shirts, "The Sign" by Ace of Base, and Chrysler trying to convince everyone that "cab-forward" design was the peak of human achievement. Whether you were rocking a sleek Laser or one of the early LH-platform cruisers, the look was all about smooth, aerodynamic lines. While the 90s offered plenty of experimental shades that didn't age well, we've focused our vault on the survivors: Black Crystal and Bright White. These are the two colors that actually had the backbone to outlast the decade, standing strong while the neon teals and champagne beiges faded into memory.

Paint Health Check

If you're still driving a 1994 Chrysler with its original finish, you're either a wizard or you park in a lead-lined bunker. We call this "The Peeling Era." In the mid-90s, the bond between the basecoat and the clear coat was... let's just say, "unstable." You've likely seen it on every other Intrepid in the parking lot: the "Chrysler Peel." This is classic delamination, where the clear coat loses its grip and starts flaking off in large, ugly scales. Once the sun's UV rays get past that protective layer, the color underneath doesn't stand a chance. If your roof or hood looks like it's recovering from a bad sunburn, the clear coat has officially failed.

Restoration Tip

The secret to keeping a '94 survivor on the road is speed. You need to seal chips and scratches immediately before the clear coat starts to lift. On these mid-90s finishes, a tiny rock chip is an invitation for air and moisture to get under the clear and start the delamination process. If you catch a chip early, you can bridge that gap and keep the layers bonded. But wait too long, and you'll be watching your factory paint job blow away at the car wash. Touch it up now, or prepare to strip it to the primer later.
