How to Find Your 2005 Chrysler's Color Code

Chrysler paint codes can be difficult to find. In the good old days, they were on top of the radiator support, often hidden under engine grease and oil. Later models put them on the drivers door jamb. Typical format: BS/GBS, but only BS is the color code; it can also appear as QBS, PBS, TBS, etc., with the first letter as a confusing "Year Code." BS corresponds to Deep Water Blue Pearl Clearcoat; the G in GBS is not part of the color code.

2005 Chrysler Background Info

The 2005 Chrysler Vibe

Welcome to 2005, the year Chrysler decided to look like a million bucks on a middle-class budget. This was the era of the "Baby Bentley"-the 300C-rolling around on 20-inch chrome wheels while the Pacifica and the Town and Country dominated the carpool lane. We've got 22 distinct shades in the locker for this year, and let me tell you, it's a trip down memory lane. You had the retirees' favorite, Linen Gold Pearl, the rental-fleet staple Cool Vanilla, and the surprisingly sharp Magnesium Pearl. Whether you're trying to keep that PT Cruiser looking retro or keeping a Crossfire from showing its age, you're working with the peak of mid-2000s American-meets-German styling.

Paint Health Check

Here's the cold, hard truth: you are standing right at the tail end of The Peeling Era. By 2005, the factory clear coats were getting better, but they still had a nasty habit of "delaminating" if they spent too much time baking in the sun. If you've got a Stone White or Bright Silver Metallic model, you know exactly what I'm talking about. It starts as a tiny bubble or a cloudy patch on the roof or hood, and before you know it, the clear coat is flaking off like a bad sunburn. Once that clear coat loses its bond to the color coat underneath, the pigment is left defenseless against the elements. If your Chrysler still has its shine, you're one of the lucky ones-but don't take it for granted.

Restoration Tip

In this era of paint, your best friend is a quick trigger finger. The moment you see a rock chip or a small scratch, you need to seal it immediately. In the 2005 Chrysler world, a chip isn't just an eyesore; it's an invitation for air and moisture to get under the edge of the clear coat. Once that lifting starts, it's a one-way trip to a full respray. Use a high-quality color match to fill the void and level it off with a fresh clear layer to lock the edges down. If you catch them early, you can stop the "peeling virus" before it claims your entire fender.
