How to Find Your 2007 Chrysler's Color Code

Chrysler paint codes can be difficult to find. In the good old days, they were on top of the radiator support, often hidden under engine grease and oil. Later models put them on the drivers door jamb. Typical format: BS/GBS, but only BS is the color code; it can also appear as QBS, PBS, TBS, etc., with the first letter as a confusing "Year Code." BS corresponds to Deep Water Blue Pearl Clearcoat; the G in GBS is not part of the color code.

2007 Chrysler Background Info

The 2007 Chrysler Vibe

Welcome to 2007, the year Chrysler decided that every suburban driveway needed to look like a VIP lounge or a vintage soda shop. We're talking about the height of the 300 Series "Baby Bentley" era, the polarizing but persistent PT Cruiser, and the Aspen-a SUV so large it had its own zip code. With a massive palette of 51 colors in our vault, Chrysler wasn't shy about variety. They were swinging for the fences with nostalgic heavy-hitters like Hemi Orange and Plum Crazy Effect, while keeping the "classy" crowd happy with Cool Vanilla and Linen Gold Pearl. It was a time of bold choices and even bolder chrome, meant to make a statement before the lease ran out.

Paint Health Check

Now, let's get real about the "Thin Paint Era." By 2007, the factory robots had become masters of efficiency-which is just a nice way of saying they applied the bare minimum to get the car out the door. You're looking at a factory finish that's leaner than a marathon runner. Because these coats are so thin, they are absolute magnets for rock chips and "crows feet" checking. If you've got an Aspen or a 300 that's spent its life under the sun, check the horizontal surfaces. The clear coat on these roofs and hoods tends to give up the ghost, turning from a high-gloss Brilliant Black Pearl into something resembling a chalkboard. If you see white, flaky edges, that's delamination, and it's a race against the clock before the rust moves in.

Restoration Tip

When you're touching up a 2007 Chrysler, remember the Golden Rule of the Thin Paint Era: Build layers slowly; don't blob it. Since the factory finish is so shallow, a giant drop of touch-up paint will stick out like a sore thumb. Use a fine-tipped applicator or even a toothpick to drop the color into the chip. Let it dry, then do it again. You want to build the paint up until it's just a hair below the surrounding surface before you seal it. This keeps the repair level and prevents that "polka dot" look that screams "amateur hour" in the parking lot.
