How to Find Your 2011 Chrysler's Color Code

Chrysler paint codes can be difficult to find. In the good old days, they were on top of the radiator support, often hidden under engine grease and oil. Later models put them on the drivers door jamb. Typical format: BS/GBS, but only BS is the color code; it can also appear as QBS, PBS, TBS, etc., with the first letter as a confusing "Year Code." BS corresponds to Deep Water Blue Pearl Clearcoat; the G in GBS is not part of the color code.

2011 Chrysler Background Info

The 2011 Chrysler Vibe

2011 was the year Chrysler tried to convince us they'd gone "Imported from Detroit" classy. They rolled out the redesigned 300 Series with those LED "C" rings and swapped the tired old Sebring for the 200, all while keeping the soccer moms happy in the Town & Country. With 20 different shades in our database, it's clear they were feeling adventurous. You've got everything from the deep, moody Blackberry Pearl and Deep Cherry to the "I'm-definitely-expensive" Ivory Pearl Tricoat. It was a good look-slick, metallic, and enough White Gold to make a suburban driveway look like a high-stakes poker room.

Paint Health Check

Welcome to the Thin Paint Era. By 2011, the robots at the factory were getting a little too good at their jobs-meaning they were programmed for maximum efficiency, not maximum depth. Back in the day, you could sand a car until your arms fell off; on a 2011 Chrysler, the clear coat is thinner than a diner napkin. Those robots sprayed just enough UV protection to get the car off the lot, and most of that protection sits in the top microscopic layer of the clear. If you've noticed your 300's hood starting to look a bit cloudy or the edges of your Town & Country's sliding doors are chipping, it's because the factory "efficiency" didn't leave much room for error.

Restoration Tip

When you're touching up these modern finishes, you have to respect the "Robot Efficiency." If you try to fix a stone chip by dabbing a massive blob of paint on there like you're icing a cupcake, it's going to stand out like a sore thumb against that thin factory profile. Build your layers slowly. Apply a thin coat of color, let it tack up, and repeat until the depth matches. Since the factory clear is so lean, don't go aggressive with the sandpaper afterward-you'll burn through to the basecoat before you can say "Pentastar." Keep it light, keep it level, and treat that thin clear coat with the respect it never got at the factory.
