How to Find Your 2016 Chrysler's Color Code

Chrysler paint codes can be difficult to find. In the good old days, they were on top of the radiator support, often hidden under engine grease and oil. Later models put them on the drivers door jamb. Typical format: BS/GBS, but only BS is the color code; it can also appear as QBS, PBS, TBS, etc., with the first letter as a confusing "Year Code." BS corresponds to Deep Water Blue Pearl Clearcoat; the G in GBS is not part of the color code.

2016 Chrysler Background Info

The 2016 Chrysler Vibe

By 2016, Chrysler was leaning hard into that "Imported from Detroit" swagger, even if most of the 200 Series were destined for airport rental fleets. You had the stately 300 Series looking like a budget Bentley and the Town & Country hauling kids in its final swan song year. We've got 28 colors in the vault for this vintage-enough variety to make a 1960s foreman quit on the spot. Whether you're sporting the deep, moody Jazz Blue Metallic, the sharp Billet Metallic, or the "look-at-me" Velvet Red Pearl, the 2016 palette was all about sophisticated metallics that tried to hide the fact that the factory robots were being strictly rationed on how much paint they could actually spray.

Paint Health Check

Welcome to the Thin Paint Era. Back in the day, we measured paint thickness in "prayers"; in 2016, they measured it in "microns of efficiency." The reality is that your Chrysler's finish was applied by robots designed to use the absolute bare minimum to cover the primer. If you've got a 300 with an aluminum hood, you're likely seeing the "Chrysler Bubbles"-where the paint starts lifting at the leading edge because the factory prep couldn't keep up with the chemistry. Between the thin clear coat and the factory's love for a bit of "orange peel" texture, these cars are rock-chip magnets. One spirited drive behind a gravel truck and your Brilliant Black Pearl nose is going to look like a star map.

Restoration Tip

When you're touching up these modern finishes, you have to play by the "Thin Coat" rules. Because the factory paint is so lean, a big, heavy blob of touch-up paint is going to stick out like a sore thumb. Build your layers slowly. Don't try to fill the chip in one shot. Dab a tiny bit in, let it flash off, and repeat until you're level with the surrounding surface. If you're working with pearls like Ivory Pearl Tricoat or Phantom Black, patience is your only friend-rushing the job will leave you with a dark spot that screams "amateur hour."
