How to Find Your 2020 Chrysler's Color Code

Chrysler paint codes can be difficult to find. In the good old days, they were on top of the radiator support, often hidden under engine grease and oil. Later models put them on the drivers door jamb. Typical format: BS/GBS, but only BS is the color code; it can also appear as QBS, PBS, TBS, etc., with the first letter as a confusing "Year Code." BS corresponds to Deep Water Blue Pearl Clearcoat; the G in GBS is not part of the color code.

2020 Chrysler Background Info

The 2020 Chrysler Vibe

By 2020, the boys in Detroit were leaning hard into two camps: the "Everything is Gray" movement and the "Look at Me" metallic crowd. If you were cruising in a 300 Series or hauling the family in a Pacifica, you had no shortage of choices. We've got 24 different shades in the vault for this year alone. Chrysler was getting poetic with the naming rights, giving us hits like Sinamon Stick Metallic, Frost Bite Pearl, and the now-iconic Ceramic Gray-that flat, non-metallic "wet putty" look that took over every parking lot in America. It was a year of bold reds like Redline Pearl and deep, moody tones like Maximum Steel. If you couldn't find a color you liked in 2020, you just weren't looking.

Paint Health Check

Welcome to the Thin Paint Era. Back in the day, we'd lay down lacquer thick enough to sand for a week; in 2020, the robots at the factory were programmed for "efficiency," which is just a fancy word for "barely there." These coats are thin-sometimes under 4 mils total. The clear coat is hard and glossy, but it's brittle. If you're driving a Pacifica, you've likely seen the "hood zits"-those lovely little bubbles along the leading edge of the aluminum hood. It's a classic case of factory prep meeting a thin finish, and once those blisters pop, the clear coat starts a slow retreat. Between rock chips and that galvanic bubbling, 2020 Chryslers are usually screaming for a touch-up by their third birthday.

Restoration Tip

Since we're dealing with the "Robot Efficiency" era, you have to be smarter than the machine. When you're filling in those chips or covering a sanded-down bubble, build your layers slowly; don't blob it. Modern factory enamel doesn't like a giant crater of wet paint. If you drop one big bead into a chip, it'll shrink as it cures, leaving a visible divot or, worse, a solvent trap. Use a fine-tip applicator, apply a thin skin, let it tack up, and repeat until you're just slightly above the surrounding clear coat. Once it's fully cured, you can level it off, and it'll look like the robot actually did its job for once.
