How to Find Your 1964 Citroen's Color Code

Citroen paint color code is obtained by contacting Citroen to determine the color code. If no color code exists, the alternative is the PPG or Dupont (Axalta) paint formula number. In practice, Citroen supplies the code, or the PPG or Dupont (Axalta) formula number is used as the reference.

1964 Citroen Background Info

The 1964 Citroen Vibe

Welcome to 1964, the year Citroen decided that "standard colors" were for the uninspired. Whether you were floating in a DS "Goddess" or bouncing through a vineyard in a 2CV, Citroen was busy proving they were decades ahead of the curve. With a staggering 44 colors in our vault for this year alone, it's clear the French weren't just painting cars; they were curating a gallery. From the sophisticated Black Sable Metallic to the vibrant Jaune Helianthe and the aptly named Vert Printemps (Spring Green), these cars looked like they beamed down from a much more stylish planet.

Paint Health Check

Since we're dealing with the Single Stage Era, your 1964 finish is a different breed than the plastic-wrapped look of today. This is "live" paint-thick, solvent-heavy enamel that carries its pigment and gloss in one go. But here's the rub: without a modern clear coat to act as a shield, this paint is a sitting duck for Oxidation. If your Angora Blue looks more like a dusty chalkboard than a French sky, that's the paint "chalking" as it dies in the sun. It doesn't peel like a bad sunburn; it just slowly fades into a ghostly, matte version of its former self.

Restoration Tip

If you're seeing that chalky fade, don't panic-that's just the top layer of pigment sacrificing itself. In this era, it needs wax or it dies. When you buff a 1964 Citroen, your pads will turn the color of the car. That's normal for single-stage paint. Once you've polished it back to its 1960s glory, you must seal it immediately. A heavy, high-quality wax is the only thing standing between your Royal Blue Metallic and a one-way trip to "Gray-ish." Keep it fed, keep it sealed, and it'll stay deep enough to drown in.
