In this era of paint, moisture loves to crawl under the edge of a chip and start prying the clear coat away from the color coat. Use a precision applicator to seal those chips immediately to stop the spread. If you're dealing with a metallic like Graphite Grey Pearl, don't try to "heavy-hand" the touch-up. These pearls like to settle; apply two thin layers of color rather than one big glob, or you'll end up with a dark spot that looks like a bruise on your fender.
