How to Find Your 2004 Dodge's Color Code

Older Dodge paint codes were placed on top of the radiator support, often obscured by engine grease and oil. Later models list them on the drivers door jamb. The typical format is BS/GBS, but only BS is the color code; it can also appear as QBS, PBS, TBS with the first letter as a confusing Year Code. The G in GBS is not part of the color code. BS corresponds to Deep Water Blue Pearl Clearcoat; lately codes are simply listed as BS.

2004 Dodge Background Info

The 2004 Dodge Vibe

2004 was the year Dodge decided to "Grab Life by the Horns" and didn't care who got poked. It was the era of the Hemi relaunch in the Ram Pick-up and Durango, the Neon SRT-4 buzzing like a hive of angry hornets, and the Viper proving that Chrysler still had a wild side. With a staggering 49 colors in our database for this year, it's clear the designers were having a field day. Whether you were rocking the trendy Cool Vanilla, the aggressive Electric Blue Pearl, or the "look at me" Viper Red, Dodge was handing out personality like candy. It was a time of bold grilles, crosshair styling, and enough silver paint to coat the moon-seriously, Bright Silver Metallic was everywhere.

Paint Health Check

Welcome to the heart of The Peeling Era. While the 2004 lineup looked sharp on the showroom floor, the relationship between the base color and the clear coat was often a rocky one. We call it "Delamination," but you probably know it as the clear coat on your Dakota hood or Caravan roof deciding to leave in giant, flaky sheets. By 2004, the industry had mastered the look of high-gloss finishes, but the bond was sometimes optimistic at best. If you see "clouding" or white edges around your paint chips, that's the clear coat losing its grip. Once the air gets under that top layer, it's a slow crawl toward a total repaint.

Restoration Tip

In this era, a rock chip isn't just an eyesore-it's an invitation for a "Clear Coat Divorce." To save your factory finish, you need to be a weekend warrior with a steady hand. Seal every single chip immediately. Don't wait for the weekend; if you see a nick in that Atlantic Blue or Flame Red, get some paint on it to "glue" the edges of the clear coat back down to the base. By sealing the perimeter of the chip, you prevent moisture and air from tunneling under the clear and lifting it off the car. Think of it like a lighthouse-keep the edges secure, or the whole thing is going out to sea.
