How to Find Your 2016 Dodge's Color Code

Older Dodge paint codes were placed on top of the radiator support, often obscured by engine grease and oil. Later models list them on the drivers door jamb. The typical format is BS/GBS, but only BS is the color code; it can also appear as QBS, PBS, TBS with the first letter as a confusing Year Code. The G in GBS is not part of the color code. BS corresponds to Deep Water Blue Pearl Clearcoat; lately codes are simply listed as BS.

2016 Dodge Background Info

The 2016 Dodge Vibe

2016 was a year of pure, unadulterated "High Impact." Dodge was leaning hard into its heritage, dusting off legendary names like Plum Crazy Pearl and Go Man Go to coat the broad shoulders of the Challenger and Charger. Whether you were hauling the family in a Durango or Grand Caravan, or running the last of the legendary Vipers in Stryker Orange Tricoat, Dodge gave you a palette that refused to whisper. With 62 different colors in our database for this year alone-ranging from the sinister Black Crystal to the electric Sublime Metallic-it's clear the designers were having a lot more fun than the guys over at the "beige" dealerships.

Paint Health Check

Welcome to the Thin Paint Era. By 2016, the assembly line robots had reached "peak efficiency," which is just a fancy way of saying they got really good at stretching a gallon of clear coat across a dozen Rams. The result? A finish that looks spectacular in the showroom but has the structural integrity of a soap bubble when it meets a highway pebble. If you own a 2016, you're likely dealing with "the Mopar Pox"-those nasty rock chips on the flat-nose Chargers or the dreaded bubbling on aluminum hoods (looking at you, Durango and Grand Caravan owners). Because the factory coats are so lean, once a chip hits the substrate, the elements move in fast, and the clear coat has very little "meat" left to buff out scratches.

Restoration Tip

When you're repairing a 2016 finish, you have to mimic that "Robot Efficiency" but with a human touch. Build your layers slowly; don't blob it. If you try to fill a deep chip on a Jazz Blue or Granite Crystal panel in one heavy go, the paint will shrink as it cures, leaving a visible crater or an uneven "high spot" that sticks out like a sore thumb. Instead, apply thin, surgical layers, allowing each to flash off before adding the next. If you're tackling bubbling on an aluminum hood, sand it all the way down to the bright metal first; if you leave even a speck of that factory contamination behind, the bubble will be back to haunt you before the next oil change.
