How to Find Your Dodge All Models's Color Code

Older Dodge paint codes were placed on top of the radiator support, often obscured by engine grease and oil. Later models list them on the drivers door jamb. The typical format is BS/GBS, but only BS is the color code; it can also appear as QBS, PBS, TBS with the first letter as a confusing Year Code. The G in GBS is not part of the color code. BS corresponds to Deep Water Blue Pearl Clearcoat; lately codes are simply listed as BS.

The Color Breakdown

Dodge has never been a brand for wallflowers, and their historical palette proves it. We've recorded 21 distinct colors for these models, ranging from the sophisticated Mauve Poly and Bronze Poly to the "look-at-me" Bright Red and the tropical Pale Medium Turquoise Poly. They really went for it with the "Poly" finishes-which is just vintage-speak for those beautiful, shimmering metallics that make a car look like it's moving even when it's parked in the driveway.

What to Watch For

While these colors are iconic, they do have a few quirks. If you're driving a classic, your paint code is likely stamped onto a metal "fender tag" located under the hood on the driver-side inner wheel well. For more modern Dodges, check the driver-side door jamb for a sticker; you're looking for a three-digit code usually sitting right next to the shorthand "PNT." One thing to keep an eye on: those metallic "Poly" colors tend to "chalk" or fade if they've spent too much time baking in the sun. You might notice the paint on the hood or roof looks a little thirstier than the sides-don't worry, a little fresh pigment goes a long way.

Driveway Repair Tip

Since so many Dodge colors are "Poly" (metallic) or high-pigment reds, the "The Paint Whisperer" secret is all in the wrist. Those tiny metallic flakes and heavy pigments like to nap at the bottom of the bottle. Shake your touch-up pen or bottle for a full 60 to 90 seconds-longer than you think you need to-to wake up those sparkles. When you apply it, think "thin and patient." Use a tiny dab to fill the center of the chip and let it flow to the edges. It's much better to apply two thin coats than one thick blob that looks like a grape stuck to your fender.
