How to Find Your Dodge Challenger's Color Code

Older Dodge paint codes were placed on top of the radiator support, often obscured by engine grease and oil. Later models list them on the drivers door jamb. The typical format is BS/GBS, but only BS is the color code; it can also appear as QBS, PBS, TBS with the first letter as a confusing Year Code. The G in GBS is not part of the color code. BS corresponds to Deep Water Blue Pearl Clearcoat; lately codes are simply listed as BS.

The Color Breakdown

Dodge didn't just pick a color palette for the Challenger; they raided a 1970s candy shop and decided to make it everyone's problem. With a staggering 114 colors recorded, they really went for it. You'll find everything from the legendary Plum Crazy Pearl and Sublime Green to the deliciously named Sinamon Stick Metallic and Go Man Go. Whether your car looks like a piece of fruit or a Granite Crystal stealth bomber, Dodge has ensured your driveway will never be boring.

What to Watch For

While these colors pop, the factory clear coat can be a bit sensitive-think of it as a muscle car with a glass jaw. Many owners notice "battle scars" on that big, flat front nose; it's a magnet for rock chips, and in some years, the paint on the front bumper has a habit of wanting to flake away. Also, because those wide tires love to kick up road grit, keep an eye on the lower fenders for a "sandblasted" look. To find your specific shade, skip the guessing game and open the driver's side door. Look at the VIN sticker on the jamb for a three-digit code next to the "PNT:" prefix.

Driveway Repair Tip

Since so many Challenger colors rely on heavy pearls and metallics to get that signature glow, your biggest weapon is the "The Great Shake." Before you touch the car, shake your touch-up bottle or pen for at least two full minutes-long after you think you're done-to wake up those metallic flakes so they don't all sink to the bottom. When applying, don't try to fill a deep chip in one go. Use the tip of your applicator to dab a tiny drop into the center of the chip and let it find its own level. It requires patience, but building up two or three thin layers will look much cleaner than a single thick glob.
