How to Find Your Dodge Pick-up's Color Code

Older Dodge paint codes were placed on top of the radiator support, often obscured by engine grease and oil. Later models list them on the drivers door jamb. The typical format is BS/GBS, but only BS is the color code; it can also appear as QBS, PBS, TBS with the first letter as a confusing Year Code. The G in GBS is not part of the color code. BS corresponds to Deep Water Blue Pearl Clearcoat; lately codes are simply listed as BS.

The Color Breakdown

Dodge didn't just build trucks; they built rolling personality statements. With 72 recorded colors in the archives, they clearly weren't afraid to "go for it." We're talking about everything from the head-turning Solar Yellow and the fiery Amber Fire Pearl to the moody Deep Amethyst Pearl that looks black until the sun hits it just right. Whether your rig is rocking the classic Flame Red or a sophisticated Graphite Grey, Dodge gave us plenty of flakes, pearls, and metallics to keep things interesting in the driveway.

What to Watch For

Dodge paint is a bit like a heavyweight boxer: tough as nails until it gets a "sunburn." These trucks are legendary for clear coat delamination-that's the technical way of saying the top layer starts flaking off like a bad tan, especially on the flat surfaces of the hood and roof. If you see tiny bubbles or "cloudy" spots, catch them early with a touch-up. To find your specific battle-shade, skip the glovebox. Most Dodge pickups hide the paint code on the driver's side door jamb on the Safety Compliance sticker; look for the three-digit code next to "PNT" or "Paint." If your truck is a seasoned veteran and the sticker is gone, check the radiator support bar under the hood or the firewall on the passenger side.

Driveway Repair Tip

Because Dodge loved their pearl and metallic finishes (looking at you, Patriot Blue and Atlantic Blue), your touch-up bottle is basically a tiny snow globe of sparkles. Those metallic flakes are heavy and love to nap at the bottom of the vial. Shake your touch-up pen or bottle for a solid 60 seconds after you hear the mixing ball start to rattle-don't cheat! When you apply it, think "thin layers." If you're filling a deep chip, do three light dabs over an hour instead of one big, messy glob. It requires a little patience, but it's the difference between a repair that disappears and one that looks like a blueberry stuck to your door.
