Dodge Ram Truck Paint Info
The Color Breakdown
When it came to the Ram, Dodge clearly decided that "boring" wasn't in the job description. With 53 colors recorded, they've given us everything from the workday classic Stone White to the "I've arrived" energy of Detonator Yellow and Mango Tango Pearl. Whether your truck is finished in a sophisticated Patriot Blue Pearl or one of the many (many) shades of Bright Silver Metallic, there is a lot of "real estate" on these trucks to keep looking sharp.
What to Watch For
Ram trucks are built for work, but the paint can sometimes feel a little sensitive about the job. Owners often notice that the "big forehead" (the hood and the front edge of the roof) is a magnet for highway rock chips and, in some model years, the clear coat likes to start its own retirement early by peeling. To get your fix started, you'll need your 3-digit paint code. Swing open the driver's door and look at the Safety Compliance Sticker on the door jamb. You're looking for a code next to the letters "PNT"-it'll be something like PW7 or PR4.
Driveway Repair Tip
If you're working with one of Dodge's many pearl or metallic finishes, like Brilliant Black Pearl or Mineral Gray, your biggest weapon is your wrist. Shake that touch-up bottle or spray can for a full 60 seconds longer than you think you need to; those metallic flakes like to settle at the bottom, and you want them in the paint, not the jar. When applying, think "thin and patient." Since Ram paint can be on the thinner side from the factory, building up two or three light layers will look much better than one big glob that stands out like a sore thumb. Give it time to dry between coats, and you'll have those battle scars covered in no time.
