How to Find Your 1996 Fleetwood's Color Code

The Fleetwood paint color code is obtained by contacting Fleetwood to determine the color code. If there is no color code, the alternative reference is the PPG or Dupont (Axalta) paint formula number. In practice, the search goes first to Fleetwood for a color code and, if none exists, to the PPG or Dupont (Axalta) paint formula number as the reference.

1996 Fleetwood Background Info

The 1996 Fleetwood Vibe

Welcome to 1996-the year of the Macarena, the debut of the high-speed internet "beep-hiss," and the absolute reign of the boxy Fleetwood Motorhome. If you were cruising the interstate in '96, you weren't looking for flashy neon; you were looking for dignity in shades of "Dream White" and "Warm Beige Metallic." These weren't just colors; they were the official uniform of the American road trip. While other manufacturers were experimenting with questionable teals, Fleetwood stuck to the classics that looked just as good parked at a National Park as they did in your driveway.

Paint Health Check

We're firmly in The Peeling Era now, kid. By 1996, the industry had gone all-in on basecoat/clearcoat systems. It looked deep and glossy in the showroom, but here's the rub: those early urethane clears had a nasty habit of "delaminating"-fancy talk for peeling off in giant, ugly sheets. On a Fleetwood Motorhome, this usually starts where the roof meets the front cap. Once that clear coat lets go, the basecoat underneath is about as protected as a polar bear in a sauna. If your Dream White looks like it's sunburned and shedding, you've got clear coat failure.

Restoration Tip

If you see the clear starting to lift or "check" (those tiny spiderweb cracks), don't wait for the wind to whistle under it. You need to seal those chips immediately before the moisture gets between the layers and turns a small fix into a total strip-and-spray. Lightly sand the edges of the peeling clear with 600-grit to "feather" it out so it's smooth to the touch, then hit it with a fresh coat of color and a high-solids clear. The goal is to lock down the perimeter; if air can't get under the clear, the peeling stops.
