How to Find Your 1999 Fleetwood's Color Code

The Fleetwood paint color code is obtained by contacting Fleetwood to determine the color code. If there is no color code, the alternative reference is the PPG or Dupont (Axalta) paint formula number. In practice, the search goes first to Fleetwood for a color code and, if none exists, to the PPG or Dupont (Axalta) paint formula number as the reference.

1999 Fleetwood Background Info

The 1999 Fleetwood Vibe

1999 was the peak of the "moving palace" era. While the rest of the world was panicking about Y2K bugs and hoarding canned beans, Fleetwood owners were busy navigating 35-foot Motorhomes into tight campgrounds. It was an era of beige interiors, oversized graphics, and the unmistakable silhouette of high-end travel. We've focused our attention on the survivors of this decade-specifically the ones sporting Dream White. It's the color that defined the late-90s Fleetwood catalog: clean, bright, and built to look expensive under the desert sun.

Paint Health Check

Welcome to the heart of The Peeling Era. By 1999, the industry had fully committed to the basecoat/clearcoat system, but the chemistry hadn't quite caught up to the reality of a ten-ton fiberglass box baking in the sun for twenty-five years. On these rigs, the biggest threat isn't rust-it's delamination. You'll usually see it first on the front caps or the roof radii where the sun hits hardest. The clear coat starts to lift and flake off in sheets, leaving the base pigment underneath exposed and vulnerable. If your Fleetwood looks like it's suffering from a bad sunburn, you're looking at classic clear coat failure.

Restoration Tip

The secret to saving a 1999 finish is "feathering the edge." If you find a chip or a spot where the clear is beginning to lift, do not let it ride. Once the wind gets under that clear coat at 65 mph on the interstate, it'll peel back like a banana. Use a fine-grit sandpaper (around 800 to 1000) to gently sand down the "shelf" where the clear meets the base until the transition is smooth to the touch. Once you've feathered that edge, seal the area immediately with a fresh touch-up. Catching a lift before it turns into a full-scale peel is the only way to keep that Dream White from becoming a restoration nightmare.
