How to Find Your 1994 Ford's Color Code

Ford paint color codes are on the drivers door jamb, on the color plate. The typical format is PM/M6599, though usually only PM appears. Example: PM corresponds to Bright Calypso Metallic Clearcoat PM/M6599; it may appear as PM Bright Calypso Metallic Clearcoat. Plates may show Exterior Paint Colors or EX PT; sometimes the color is embossed mid-plate. WB is wheelbase; above Wheel Base is EXT PNT, and to the right of EXT PNT is the code. Many mistake LX3 as the code.

1994 Ford Background Info

The 1994 Ford Vibe

Welcome to the peak of the SUV boom. In 1994, if you weren't hauling the family in an Explorer or a Windstar, you were probably eyeing an F-150 or the infamous Bronco. Ford didn't just give us a truck; they gave us a color palette that defined the decade. We've locked down 16 essential shades from this year, including the iconic Cayman Green Metallic-the official color of every suburban driveway in the mid-90s-and the unapologetically bold Pink Coral Pearl Metallic for the Aspire and Probe owners who wanted to be seen from space. It was an era of deep teals, dusty mauves, and enough Oxford White to cover a small moon.

Paint Health Check

We are smack in the middle of The Peeling Era. By 1994, Ford was fully committed to the basecoat/clearcoat system, but the chemistry was still going through its "rebellious phase." The real enemy here is delamination. You've likely seen it: the clear coat starts to cloud, then cracks, and eventually begins flaking off like a bad case of road-rash sunburn. This happened because the bond between that gray factory primer and the color coat-especially on Oxford White or metallics like Medium Royal Blue-would literally give up the ghost when exposed to too much UV. If your hood looks like it's losing its skin, you're dealing with the classic "Ford Peel" of the nineties.

Restoration Tip

On a '94, you have to play defense. Seal those stone chips immediately. In this era, a tiny rock chip isn't just an eyesore; it's an entry point for moisture and air to get under the clear coat. Once the clear starts "lifting" around the edges of a chip, the delamination will spread across the panel like a wildfire. Clean the chip, dab in your color to seal the edges, and keep that factory finish pinned down. If you wait until you see large flakes, you aren't doing a touch-up anymore-you're doing a full strip and glass-out respray.
