How to Find Your 2000 Ford's Color Code

Ford paint color codes are on the drivers door jamb, on the color plate. The typical format is PM/M6599, though usually only PM appears. Example: PM corresponds to Bright Calypso Metallic Clearcoat PM/M6599; it may appear as PM Bright Calypso Metallic Clearcoat. Plates may show Exterior Paint Colors or EX PT; sometimes the color is embossed mid-plate. WB is wheelbase; above Wheel Base is EXT PNT, and to the right of EXT PNT is the code. Many mistake LX3 as the code.

2000 Ford Background Info

The 2000 Ford Vibe

Welcome to the turn of the millennium-the year we realized Y2K wasn't going to crash the planes, but the newly released Ford Excursion was definitely going to take up two parking spots at the mall. In 2000, Ford was in its "Silver and Beige" prime. With 26 colors in our database for this year, it's clear they were leaning hard into the tech-obsessed aesthetic of the era. Whether you were rocking a Mustang in Silver Frost Metallic, a Focus in Oxford White, or a "soccer-practice-hero" Explorer in the ubiquitous Arizona Beige Metallic, the vibe was clean, metallic, and distinctly futuristic (for the time).

Paint Health Check

We are deep in The Peeling Era. By 2000, Ford had fully committed to the basecoat/clearcoat system, but the bond between those layers wasn't always a "happily ever after" story. If your F-Series or Taurus looks like it's suffering from a giant, flaky sunburn on the hood or roof, you're dealing with Delamination. This is where the clear coat decides it's tired of protecting the base color and starts lifting off in sheets. It's particularly common on the Oxford White and those "Space Age" silvers, where UV rays eventually win the war against the factory clear.

Restoration Tip

In this era of paint, your motto is: Seal it or lose it. Because the clear coat is a separate, brittle layer, a single rock chip is more than an eyesore-it's an entry point. Once moisture and air get under the edge of that chip, the delamination spreads like a virus. The fix? Seal chips immediately before the clear lifts. If you spot a nick on your Ranger or Expedition, don't wait for the weekend. Dab a bit of touch-up paint and clear on there to "anchor" the surrounding finish. Once the clear starts "ghosting" (turning white or opaque at the edges), the only real cure is a trip to the spray booth.
