How to Find Your 2007 Ford's Color Code

Ford paint color codes are on the drivers door jamb, on the color plate. The typical format is PM/M6599, though usually only PM appears. Example: PM corresponds to Bright Calypso Metallic Clearcoat PM/M6599; it may appear as PM Bright Calypso Metallic Clearcoat. Plates may show Exterior Paint Colors or EX PT; sometimes the color is embossed mid-plate. WB is wheelbase; above Wheel Base is EXT PNT, and to the right of EXT PNT is the code. Many mistake LX3 as the code.

2007 Ford Background Info

The 2007 Ford Vibe

Welcome to 2007: the year the Ford Edge made its debut, the Mustang was still riding that retro-future high, and the F-Series was the undisputed king of the driveway. Our database is practically bursting at the seams with 106 colors for this year, ranging from the rugged Pueblo Gold Metallic seen on many a Super Duty to the flashy Screaming Yellow that made the Focus actually look fast. It was an era where Ford wasn't afraid to experiment with "Effect" pigments-those pearls and metallics like Windveil Blue and Dark Toreador Red that looked a mile deep when they rolled off the lot.

Paint Health Check

We call this the Thin Paint Era. By 2007, the factory robots had become masters of "efficiency," which is just a polite way of saying they got really stingy with the product. While the application was perfectly uniform, the total mill thickness of your basecoat and clearcoat is often thinner than the manual in your glovebox. If you're looking at your 2007 Explorer or F-150 today, you're likely seeing "Clear Coat Shedding"-where the top layer starts peeling off like a bad sunburn, especially on the hood and roof. Also, if you've got a Mustang or an Expedition with those aluminum panels, you've probably noticed those lovely "paint bubbles" near the edges. That's not just age; that's the factory finish losing the battle against the elements.

Restoration Tip

Because this era of paint is notoriously thin, your motto for any repair should be: "Build layers, don't blob." When you're filling in a rock chip on that Silver Birch Effect or Vista Blue, do not try to level it off in one go. If you dump too much paint in the hole, the solvents won't outgas properly, and you'll end up with a soft, gummy spot that'll fall out in six months. Apply a thin coat, let it flash off, and repeat until you've built it up just slightly above the surface. Slow and steady wins the race when the factory only gave you a whisper of paint to work with in the first place.
