How to Find Your Ford Focus's Color Code

Ford paint color codes are on the drivers door jamb, on the color plate. The typical format is PM/M6599, though usually only PM appears. Example: PM corresponds to Bright Calypso Metallic Clearcoat PM/M6599; it may appear as PM Bright Calypso Metallic Clearcoat. Plates may show Exterior Paint Colors or EX PT; sometimes the color is embossed mid-plate. WB is wheelbase; above Wheel Base is EXT PNT, and to the right of EXT PNT is the code. Many mistake LX3 as the code.

The Color Breakdown

Ford certainly didn't hold back with the Focus. Across its run, we've recorded a staggering 133 colors. They really went for it with the naming conventions, too-moving from the early "millennial-vibe" shades like Screaming Yellow and Mandarin Copper Metallic to the more sophisticated (but equally bold) Outrageous Green Tricoat and Nitrous Blue. Whether you're driving a sensible Oxford White commuter or a Triple Yellow head-turner, your Focus was designed to stand out in the parking lot.

What to Watch For

Before you start dabbing, you need to find your "EXT PNT" code. You'll find it on the manufacturer's sticker inside the driver's side door jamb-it's usually a two-character code sitting right under a barcode. Now, a quick heads-up: Focus paint has a reputation for being a bit on the thin side, especially on later models. Keep a close eye on the leading edge of the hood (the "swiss cheese" effect is real) and the edges of the rear hatch. If you see tiny bubbles forming near the rear wiper or the door handles, don't panic-catching those early with a touch-up pen is exactly why you're here.

Driveway Repair Tip

Since so many Focus colors-like Ruby Red or Blue Candy-are high-depth pearls or tri-coats, your best friend is a vigorous 60-second shake of that touch-up bottle. You need to "wake up" those metallic flakes so they don't all sit at the bottom. When you apply the paint, think of yourself as a surgeon, not a house painter. Instead of brushing it on, just barely touch the tip of the applicator to the center of the chip and let the paint flow out to fill the gap. Two thin layers will always look better than one giant, gloopy mountain of paint.
