How to Find Your 2008 Forest-River's Color Code

Forest-River can indicate where to find the color code; codes are sometimes well hidden, and some vehicles do not have color codes. Manufacturer assistance before searching the vehicle is emphasized, since hidden codes may require it. PPG or Dupont numbers can substitute for a missing code; questions include whether they know the PPG paint formula number or the Dupont paint formula number.

2008 Forest-River Background Info

The 2008 Forest-River Vibe

Welcome to 2008, the year when luxury travel meant as many shades of champagne and silver as a robot could spray. This was the peak of the "Full Body Paint" era for the Forest-River Motorhome, where big rigs were expected to look like high-end sedans rather than the white boxes of the 90s. We've focused our collection on the survivors of this palette-the heavy hitters like Gold Metallic, Beige, and the double-threat of Light Silver and Silky Silver Metallic. If your rig is sporting Black Metallic or Gloss Trim Black, you were probably at the top of the food chain in the RV park, at least until the sun started doing its work on those dark pigments.

Paint Health Check

We are firmly in the Thin Paint Era. By 2008, the robots in the factory had become masters of "efficiency," which is just a polite way of saying they applied the bare minimum to get the job done. While these 2008 finishes have a deep, lustrous look, they are deceptively fragile. The clear coat on the roof radii and the front nose cap is likely the first thing to go-UV rays treat that thin clear layer like a snack. If you're seeing "checking" (those tiny little cracks in the paint) or if your Black Metallic is starting to look a bit smoky or white at the edges, that's the clear coat waving the white flag. These factory finishes don't have the "meat" that the old 90s rigs had, so you can't just buff your way out of every scratch.

Restoration Tip

Because 2008 paint is laid on so thin by the factory, you have to resist the urge to "blob" your touch-up. If you try to fill a chip in one heavy pass, it'll look like a mountain on a molehill because the surrounding factory paint is as thin as a whisper. Instead, build your layers slowly. Apply a thin coat of color, let it tack up, and repeat until you're level with the surface. When you get to the clear coat, remember: the goal is to mimic that robot-applied precision. Several fine passes are better than one thick drip that'll just sag off the side of your fiberglass coach.
