Back in my day, you could practically sand a car with a brick and still have clear coat left; these days, the factory robots apply paint with the surgical precision of a miser. They give you exactly enough to look "showroom sharp" and not a micron more. If you're driving a 2019 in Ceramic White or Polar White, you've likely already seen the "White Hyundai Blues"-where the paint decides it doesn't actually like the primer and starts peeling off in sheets like a bad sunburn.
