How to Find Your Infiniti FX's Color Code

Infiniti paint color codes are always on the drivers door jamb; some require getting pretty low on the drivers door jamb to read, but the code is easy to read. Typical format: AX6. AX6 corresponds to Redline Clearcoat. Same Color Code, Different Name: Infiniti uses the exact same color across many models with different names, so the color code is important. For example, AX6 above we call Redline Clearcoat; it could also be called Red Clearcoat, High Performance Clearcoat, etc.

The Color Breakdown

Infiniti didn't just play it safe with the FX; they really went for it. While we have 9 recorded colors, they range from the understated Black Obsidian and Silverstone Metallic to some truly adventurous choices like Beryllium 16 Metallic and the iconic Liquid Copper Metallic. Whether yours is a subtle shade of grey or a rolling sunset, these colors were designed to highlight the car's aggressive curves-which, unfortunately, makes every little rock chip look like a personal insult.

What to Watch For

Before you get to work, you need your "secret recipe" code. You'll usually find it in one of two places: check the driver's side door jamb for a printed sticker, or pop the hood and look for a metal plaque on the passenger-side firewall (the wall between the engine and the cabin).

As for the paint itself, Infiniti is known for having a "soft" clear coat. This means it's great for a deep shine, but it's a magnet for road debris and front-end chips. You might also notice the roof or the tops of the doors looking a bit hazy if the car has spent its life under the sun. Don't worry, though-the FX is a "driver's car," and a few battle scars are just proof you've been enjoying the ride.

Driveway Repair Tip

If you're working with beauties like White Pearl Tri-Coat or Liquid Copper, remember that these colors have a lot of "personality" (also known as mica and metallic flakes). These flakes like to settle at the bottom of the bottle. Give your touch-up pen or brush a vigorous shake for a full 60 seconds-longer than you think you need-to wake up those sparkles.

When applying, think "thin and patient." Instead of trying to fill a chip with one big glob, dab a tiny amount into the center of the chip and let it flow to the edges. If it needs more, wait 15 minutes and go again. It's like icing a very tiny, very expensive cake: several light layers will always look better than one thick smear.
