How to Find Your Isuzu Trooper's Color Code

Isuzu can be contacted to determine the color code. If there is no color code, the PPG or Dupont (Axalta) paint formula number may be requested. Common places to look are on the drivers door jamb, the trunk and under the hood.

The Color Breakdown

Isuzu really leaned into the "lifestyle" aspect of the Trooper, offering a staggering 139 colors over its lifespan. While they had plenty of the standard 90s neutrals like Matterhorn Silver Metallic and Champagne Beige Metallic, they also clearly had a wild side. If you're the proud owner of a Tangier Orange, Sparky Blue, or Orchid Pink Metallic Trooper, you aren't just driving an SUV; you're driving a statement. They also loved a good two-tone combination-nearly half of the recorded palette involves "over-under" schemes like the classic Ebony Black over Moonmist Gray Pearl.

What to Watch For

Before you start, you need to find your "North Star"-the paint code. On a Trooper, this is usually hiding on a metal plate riveted to the firewall (the wall behind the engine). If it's not there, check the glove box or the driver's side door jamb. Look for a three-digit number; if you have a two-tone model, you might see two codes separated by a slash.

Reality check: These are aging legends. Keep a close eye on the door handles, roof gutters, and rear hatch hinges. Paint in these areas tends to bubble or thin out first. If you see a little "spider webbing" or fading on the hood, don't worry-it's just the Isuzu's way of showing its age. It's nothing a steady hand and a little touch-up paint can't handle.

Driveway Repair Tip

Since so many Trooper colors are Metallic or Pearl (looking at you, Dragon Green Pearl), the "settling" of the paint is your biggest hurdle. Those tiny sparkles love to sink to the bottom of the bottle. Shake your touch-up pen or bottle for a full two minutes-long after you think you're done-to wake up the mica and metallic flakes.

When applying, remember that Isuzu paint likes thin, dainty layers. If you're filling a chip, dab a tiny amount in the center and let it flow to the edges. If you have a two-tone Trooper and you're working near the trim line, use a piece of low-tack masking tape to keep your Iron Gray Metallic bumper paint from "visiting" your Alpine White door. Patience is your best tool here!
