Paint Health Check

Now, listen close: you're firmly in the Thin Paint Era. Gone are the days of the old-timers slopping on thick lacquer that you could buff for forty years. By 2021, the robots in Forest City had "efficiency" down to a science. They spray these modern clear coats so thin you'd think they were charging by the micron. It looks gorgeous on the showroom floor, but the reality is that the front cap and roof radius are basically rock-chip magnets. Once a pebble punches through that thin shell, the sun starts looking for a way to lift the clear coat right off the base. If you see a chip, you're on the clock.

Restoration Tip

When you're touching up a 2021 finish, throw away the "one and done" mindset. Because factory enamel is applied so sparingly, a giant blob of touch-up paint will stick out like a sore thumb against the flat, robot-perfect surface. The trick is to build your layers slowly. Dab a tiny bit of color into the chip, let it shrink and dry, and repeat until you're level with the surrounding surface. Don't try to fill the crater in one shot-patience is the only way to match the depth that the factory robots were too rushed to give you.
