How to Find Your 1999 Jaguar's Color Code

Jaguar paint color codes are usually on the drivers door jamb. On older Jaguar models, the color code can be ANYWHERE! Under the hood, in the trunk. Typical format: 1957/HGZ, which corresponds to Jaguar Racing Green Pearl. Some Jaguars will have the 1957 code but most will only show the HGZ code. Same color across models may have different names: Racing Clearcoat, Green Performance Clearcoat, etc. It's the same paint!

1999 Jaguar Background Info

The 1999 Jaguar Vibe

Welcome to 1999-the year we were all worried about Y2K but the only thing actually crashing was the price of a used XJ6. This was the peak of the Ford-era transition, where Jaguar finally found a balance between that "Old World" cigar-lounge aesthetic and modern reliability. The streets were filled with the sleek curves of the XJ8 and the XK8, looking every bit the high-society predator. While we've curated the essential survivors for our database, the era was defined by high-tech finishes like Topaz Metallic and the ethereal Seafrost Pearl. Of course, British Racing Green remained the undisputed king-because if you aren't driving a green Jag, are you even trying?

Paint Health Check

Listen, kid, 1999 was a long time ago in paint years. We are firmly in The Peeling Era. By the late '90s, the boys in Coventry were using a sophisticated basecoat/clearcoat system. It looked a million bucks on the showroom floor, but the clear coat on these cars is notorious for "delamination." If your Jag has lived its life outside, you've likely seen it: that white, milky "cloud peeling" on the roof, hood, and boot lid. Once the UV rays bake that clear layer enough to break its bond with the color underneath, it starts to lift like a bad sunburn. If you see a small bubble or a flake, the clock is ticking.

Restoration Tip

The secret to keeping a 1999 Jaguar looking like it belongs at the club is sealing chips immediately. In this era of paint, a stone chip isn't just a cosmetic blemish-it's an entry point for moisture and air to get under the clear coat. Once that seal is broken, the clear will start to "creep" and lift away from the base color. Don't wait for a weekend that never comes. Clean the area, dab your color match in, and get that clear coat sealed tight before the delamination takes over the whole panel. If the clear lifts, you're looking at a full respray; if you catch the chip early, you're looking at a masterpiece.
