How to Find Your 2000 Jaguar's Color Code

Jaguar paint color codes are usually on the drivers door jamb. On older Jaguar models, the color code can be ANYWHERE! Under the hood, in the trunk. Typical format: 1957/HGZ, which corresponds to Jaguar Racing Green Pearl. Some Jaguars will have the 1957 code but most will only show the HGZ code. Same color across models may have different names: Racing Clearcoat, Green Performance Clearcoat, etc. It's the same paint!

2000 Jaguar Background Info

The 2000 Jaguar Vibe

The year 2000 was the dawn of the "New Millennium" at Jaguar, and they celebrated by making everything look like it was forged in a jeweler's shop. Whether it was the classic XJ8 or the then-new S-Type, the goal was executive elegance. Our database covers the 5 colors that truly defined this transition-from the immortal British Racing Green to the metallic trio of Platinum, Topaz, and Seafrost Pearl. These weren't just paints; they were statements of intent for a high-tech future that still respected its wood-and-leather roots.

Paint Health Check

You are currently living in the heart of "The Peeling Era." By the time 2000 rolled around, factory clear coats were deep and lustrous, but they had a specific expiration date if left in the sun. The biggest threat to your Jag isn't just a scratch; it's delamination. This is where the clear coat loses its bond with the metallic basecoat, leading to that "cloudy peeling" look on the roof, hood, and trunk. Once the clear starts lifting, the metallic flakes underneath oxidize almost instantly, turning a brilliant Platinum into a dull, chalky gray.

Restoration Tip

Seal your chips immediately-no excuses. On a 2000 Jaguar, a tiny rock chip isn't just a cosmetic flaw; it's an entry point for moisture and air to get under the clear coat and start the peeling process. When you're touching up these metallics, don't just "blob" the paint on. Use a fine-tipped brush or a toothpick to fill the crater just below the surface, let it dry, and then hit it with a clear coat to lock the edges down. If the clear has already started to lift, you must carefully sand the "lip" of the peel back to where it's still bonded before you apply any fresh color, or your repair will just flake off with the old clear.
