How to Find Your 2003 Jaguar's Color Code

Jaguar paint color codes are usually on the drivers door jamb. On older Jaguar models, the color code can be ANYWHERE! Under the hood, in the trunk. Typical format: 1957/HGZ, which corresponds to Jaguar Racing Green Pearl. Some Jaguars will have the 1957 code but most will only show the HGZ code. Same color across models may have different names: Racing Clearcoat, Green Performance Clearcoat, etc. It's the same paint!

2003 Jaguar Background Info

The 2003 Jaguar Vibe

Welcome to 2003, a year where Jaguar was trying to marry old-school wood-and-leather charm with the "high-tech" silver obsession of the new millennium. Whether you were piloting a flagship XJ or the curvy S-Type, the color palette was a buffet of British class. We've got 14 specific shades in the vault from this year, and they aren't just "paint"-they're statements. You had your staples like British Racing Green and Ebony, but the real stars were the pearls and metallics. From the misty Seafrost Pearl to the razor-sharp Platinum Metallic, these finishes were designed to look deep enough to swim in. It was a good time to be a Jaguar owner, provided you kept the car out of the midday sun.

Paint Health Check

We are deep in the "Peeling Era" here, friends. By 2003, Jaguar was using a sophisticated basecoat/clearcoat system, which gave those Jaguar Racing Green Pearl and Radiance Metallic finishes their incredible depth. But here's the rub: that clear coat is a protective skin, and by now, it's likely starting to show its age. Keep a sharp eye on the horizontal surfaces-the roof, the hood, and the trunk lid. If you see a milky, cloudy patch or a spot where the paint looks like it's getting a "sunburn" and flaking off, you're looking at delamination. Once that clear coat lifts, the basecoat underneath loses its UV protection and turns chalky faster than you can say "Lucas Electrics."

Restoration Tip

In this era of paint, your greatest enemy is a simple stone chip. Why? Because a chip creates an "edge" in the clear coat. Moisture and heat get under that edge, causing the clear coat to lose its grip on the color coat, leading to massive peeling. The Fix: Seal your chips the second you see them. Don't just "blob" a giant drop of paint on there; use a fine-tip applicator to fill the crater until it's level with the surrounding clear. By sealing that entry point, you stop the delamination before it turns your Celestial Black Pearl hood into a flaky mess.
