How to Find Your Jaguar F-Type's Color Code

Jaguar paint color codes are usually on the drivers door jamb. On older Jaguar models, the color code can be ANYWHERE! Under the hood, in the trunk. Typical format: 1957/HGZ, which corresponds to Jaguar Racing Green Pearl. Some Jaguars will have the 1957 code but most will only show the HGZ code. Same color across models may have different names: Racing Clearcoat, Green Performance Clearcoat, etc. It's the same paint!

The Color Breakdown

Jaguar didn't just release a car with the F-Type; they released a full-blown art gallery. With a staggering 128 recorded colors, they clearly leaned into the "more is more" philosophy. Whether you're rocking the high-voltage Firesand Pearl Metallic, the undeniably cool Ultra Blue, or the timeless British Racing Green, Jaguar really went for it. Of course, if you're one of the many owners with Ammonite Grey or Eiger Grey, you know that Jaguar also happens to be the undisputed world champion of "50 shades of metallic grey."

What to Watch For

Before you start, you'll need your "cheat sheet." Open your driver's door and look at the door jamb; your paint code is tucked away at the bottom of the VIN sticker, usually as a three-character code (like PEC or HGZ). Now, for the reality check: Jaguar's factory finish is beautiful, but it's famously "soft." It tends to pick up road rash and small chips quite easily, especially on the hood and the rocker panels (the areas just in front of the rear tires). If you notice some bubbling or chipping near the seams of those side panels, don't panic-it's a common trait of the F-Type's aluminum body and flexible panels, and it's something you can definitely tidy up yourself.

Driveway Repair Tip

Because so many F-Type colors are packed with Xirallic pearls and complex metallics, your tiny bottle of touch-up paint is essentially a lava lamp in disguise. You need to shake that bottle for a full 60 to 90 seconds to wake up the sparkles; otherwise, the "metallic" part stays at the bottom and you'll end up with a flat spot. When applying, think "less is more." Use the tip of the brush to dab a tiny amount into the center of the chip and let it flow to the edges. If you're working on those bright reds like Caldera Red or Italian Racing Red, which can be sensitive to UV, just remember that a little patience between thin layers will give you a much better result than one big, gloopy drop.
