How to Find Your Jaguar S-Type's Color Code

Jaguar paint color codes are usually on the drivers door jamb. On older Jaguar models, the color code can be ANYWHERE! Under the hood, in the trunk. Typical format: 1957/HGZ, which corresponds to Jaguar Racing Green Pearl. Some Jaguars will have the 1957 code but most will only show the HGZ code. Same color across models may have different names: Racing Clearcoat, Green Performance Clearcoat, etc. It's the same paint!

The Color Breakdown

Jaguar really leaned into the "English Estate" aesthetic for the S-Type, giving us 15 recorded colors that sound more like a high-end botanical tour than a paint catalog. They definitely went for it with choices like the ethereal Seafrost Pearl, the deep Botanical Green Pearl, and the striking Emerald Fire Pearl. If your car is one of the many shades of Vapour Gray or Liquid Silver, don't think of it as "another grey car"-think of it as "tactical British sophistication."

What to Watch For

Before you start, you need to find your "secret handshake" (the paint code). Open the driver's side door and look at the door jamb-you're searching for a three-letter code like HGD or LNL. As for the paint itself, the S-Type is a bit of a "softie." The clear coat on the hood and roof is prone to "clouding," where it starts to look milky or begins to peel. It's also quite a magnet for stone chips on that beautiful sloping nose. If you see little black or grey dots appearing on your front bumper, it's not dirt-it's the road saying hello, and it's a perfectly manageable fix for a Saturday afternoon.

Driveway Repair Tip

Since almost all Jaguar colors are Pearl or Metallic finishes, the "magic" (the tiny mica and metal flakes) likes to settle at the bottom of the bottle. Shake your touch-up pen or brush for at least 60 seconds longer than you think is necessary to wake those sparkles up. When filling a chip, don't try to fill the whole hole in one go. Dab a tiny amount into the center and let it spread itself out. Working with these deep pearls requires patience; applying several thin layers will give you a much better depth than one thick blob that never quite looks right.
