How to Find Your Jeep CUV's Color Code

Jeep codes are difficult to find. In the good old days, they hid them on top of the radiator support, under engine grease and oil. Later models put them on the drivers door jamb. Typical format: BS/GBS; only BS is the color code (also QBS, PBS, TBS, etc.). The first letter is a "Year Code". BS corresponds to Deep Water Blue Pearl Clearcoat; the G in GBS is not part of the color code. Lately, Jeep lists just BS.

The Color Breakdown

Jeep clearly decided that if you're driving a CUV, you shouldn't have to blend into the scenery. With 16 recorded colors, they really went for it-offering everything from the caffeinated Mocha Latte to the high-energy Spitfire Orange. Whether you're rocking the stealthy Granite Crystal Metallic or the classic Bright White, these colors were designed to have personality. It's a bold palette that says, "I might be picking up groceries, but I could definitely climb a curb if I had to."

What to Watch For

Now, let's talk shop. Jeep paint is adventurous, but it can be a little sensitive. Keep a close eye on your hood and the edges of your door handles; the paint in these spots tends to be a bit "brittle" and prone to chipping or small bubbles. To find your exact match, head over to the driver's side door jamb. You're looking for a three-character code (like PSC or PAU) next to the "PAINT" header. Note that your code might start with a "P" or an "L"-don't let that throw you; they usually point to the same beautiful shade.

Driveway Repair Tip

Since so many of these colors-like Hydro Blue Pearl or Velvet Red Pearl-are packed with sparkle, your biggest secret weapon is a good workout. Shake your touch-up bottle for at least 60 seconds (longer than you think!) to wake up those pearl flakes so they don't all sit at the bottom. When you go to fill a chip, think "thin and patient." Apply one light layer, let it dry, and come back for a second if you need more depth. It's better to build the color up slowly than to end up with a thick "blob" that stands out in the sun.
