How to Find Your Jeep Grand Wagoneer's Color Code

Jeep codes are difficult to find. In the good old days, they hid them on top of the radiator support, under engine grease and oil. Later models put them on the drivers door jamb. Typical format: BS/GBS; only BS is the color code (also QBS, PBS, TBS, etc.). The first letter is a "Year Code". BS corresponds to Deep Water Blue Pearl Clearcoat; the G in GBS is not part of the color code. Lately, Jeep lists just BS.

The Color Breakdown

Jeep clearly decided that a vehicle this big needed a color palette to match its ego. We've recorded a staggering 46 colors for the Grand Wagoneer, ranging from the rugged, old-school Briarwood Metallic and Grenadine Metallic to modern, atmospheric shades like Midnight Sky Pearl and River Rock Pearl. Whether your Wagoneer is sporting the classic Bright White or the moodier Ember Pearl, the designers really went for it-it's essentially a rolling catalog of "expensive-sounding nature nouns."

What to Watch For

Before you start dabbing paint onto that massive hood, you need to find your "PNT" code. On the Grand Wagoneer, you'll find this on the driver's side door jamb on the VIN sticker. Look for a three-digit code (often starting with a 'P'). Now, for the reality check: Jeep has a bit of a complicated relationship with aluminum. Keep a sharp eye on the leading edge of the hood and around the door handles. If you see tiny bubbles forming under the surface, that's aluminum oxidation. Catching these early with a touch-up pen is the best way to keep those "bubbles" from turning into "craters."

Driveway Repair Tip

Since so many of these modern Jeep colors-like Rocky Mountain Pearl or Velvet Red-are packed with high-end pearls and metallics, the "sparkles" like to settle at the bottom of the bottle. Shake your touch-up pen for a full two minutes-yes, time it. If you don't, your repair will look like flat grey instead of metallic silver. When applying, think "less is more." Use the tip of the applicator to drop the paint into the chip rather than painting over it. These deep pearls require patience to build up, so do two thin coats rather than one big, gloopy mountain of paint.
