How to Find Your Jeep Liberty's Color Code

Jeep codes are difficult to find. In the good old days, they hid them on top of the radiator support, under engine grease and oil. Later models put them on the drivers door jamb. Typical format: BS/GBS; only BS is the color code (also QBS, PBS, TBS, etc.). The first letter is a "Year Code". BS corresponds to Deep Water Blue Pearl Clearcoat; the G in GBS is not part of the color code. Lately, Jeep lists just BS.

The Color Breakdown

Jeep clearly didn't know when to quit with the Liberty, and honestly, we're here for it. With a staggering 72 colors recorded over its lifespan, they really went for it. Whether you're rocking the adventurous Bright Cactus Green, the sophisticated Patriot Blue Pearl, or the spicy Salsa Red Pearl, your Liberty was designed to stand out in a parking lot full of boring beige crossovers.

What to Watch For

Now, let's talk shop. The Liberty has a bit of a reputation for "sunburn"-specifically, the clear coat on the hood and roof tends to get a little flaky and start peeling if it's spent too much time outside. If you see white, crispy edges around a dull spot, that's your clear coat waving the white flag. You might also notice the paint is a bit thin on the fender edges, so be gentle when cleaning those areas.

To get your fix started, you need your secret recipe code. Open your driver's door and look at the sticker on the jamb. You're looking for a three-digit code preceded by "PNT:" (for example, PNT: PDM for Mineral Gray). If it's not there, pop the hood and check the metal plate on the firewall or radiator support; Jeep liked to play hide-and-seek with the labels on earlier models.

Driveway Repair Tip

Since so many Liberty colors are "Pearls" or "Metallics" (I'm looking at you, Deep Beryl Green), those tiny sparkles like to settle at the bottom of the bottle. Shake your touch-up pen or bottle for a full 60 seconds-yes, time it-to wake up that metallic flake. When applying, remember that three thin coats are better than one giant glob. If you're filling a chip, dab the paint into the center and let it flow to the edges. This requires patience, but it's the difference between a "pro-ish" driveway fix and a messy polka dot on your hood.
