How to Find Your Jeep Patriot's Color Code

Jeep codes are difficult to find. In the good old days, they hid them on top of the radiator support, under engine grease and oil. Later models put them on the drivers door jamb. Typical format: BS/GBS; only BS is the color code (also QBS, PBS, TBS, etc.). The first letter is a "Year Code". BS corresponds to Deep Water Blue Pearl Clearcoat; the G in GBS is not part of the color code. Lately, Jeep lists just BS.

The Color Breakdown

Jeep didn't just give us a color palette for the Patriot; they gave us a whole mood board. With 49 colors recorded, they really went for it. You've got the rugged classics like Stone White and Mineral Gray Metallic for the "I might go off-road" look, but then you've got the "I'm definitely the life of the party" shades like Surf Blue Pearl and Sunburst Orange Metallic. Whether yours is a subtle Deep Water Blue or a loud Rescue Green, there's a lot of personality packed into these square body panels.

What to Watch For

Before you get started, you need to find your "PNT" code. Swing open the driver's door and look at the VIN sticker on the door jamb-you're looking for a three-digit code next to the letters PNT (like PXR or PW7). Now, a little honesty: Jeep Patriots are famous for a bit of "orange peel" texture from the factory, so don't be surprised if the paint feels less like glass and more like a citrus fruit. Also, keep a close eye on the front edge of your hood and around the door hinges. These spots are prone to tiny bubbles or chips. If you see them, don't panic-it just means your Patriot has been living its best life, and it's nothing a little patience and a steady hand can't fix.

Driveway Repair Tip

Since so many of these Jeep colors-like Deep Cherry or Blackberry Pearl-are packed with metallic flakes and pearls, they need a "wake-up call." Shake your touch-up bottle or pen for at least 60 seconds (longer than you think you need!) to get those sparkles off the bottom and into the paint. When you're filling a chip, think "less is more." Use the tip of your applicator to dab a tiny amount into the center of the chip and let it flow to the edges. It's better to do two paper-thin layers than one big, gloppy mountain of paint that takes three days to dry!
